Twitter reminds me of the slam books teens would circulate and share mean thoughts. It made them feel better about themselves to trash others. Threads, Instagram, Substack are more positive. Facebook - I use it to communicate because there are few local sources for local information.
There is some of that. Have you been on it? In my Twitter neighborhood, I find a lot of support when people are hurting. While people are waiting waiting waiting for mental health services to respond, we hold them together. People struggling with addiction get support, encouragement, understanding. Yes, you can find the ugly stuff. You can also scroll past. That's my experience.
Have you considered Threads? It’s growing and has quite a nice vibe to it. Crazy people filled with hate are not tolerated.

I think it can be as you get to know familiar profiles who post often. Very similar structure to Twitter but just nicer.

I left Twitter the day Elon Musk took it over and renamed it X. I find better support in face-to-face talking circles in the real community.
